The Permanent Secretary of SELA, Ambassador Clarems Endara, opened the Second Diploma Course on Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management: resilience for adaptation to climate change, organised in conjunction with the Catholic University of Santiago de Guayaquil.

“This diploma course is our contribution to providing professionals and experts with the tools and perspectives to understand, analyse and act in the face of these challenges (…) Our purpose is to continue promoting economic cooperation and we are committed to boosting regional capacities in order to increase the pool of experts in disaster risk,” he said.

Furthermore, given the increasing intensity of climate change-related phenomena, the Permanent Secretary of SELA emphasised that the course is “timely and essential for integrating climate adaptation into risk planning and promoting resilience.”

Twenty-seven officials from Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, Honduras, Peru, the Dominican Republic, and Venezuela are taking this Second Diploma Course on Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management: resilience for adaptation to climate change, which will conclude on 4 September.

This diploma course is included in Programme II of the Social Development Area of SELA’s Work Programme for 2022-2026, which focuses on comprehensive disaster risk management and climate change, to establish regional structures that contribute to reducing vulnerabilities, responding effectively to emergency situations, and caring for the populations most vulnerable to extreme natural phenomena through social protection systems.
