The Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA), in line with its objective of promoting regional integration and cooperation for environmental protection and sustainable development, is organizing the III Seminar on Circular Economy: measurement, monitoring and design of indicators for public policies in Latin America and the Caribbean, in collaboration with the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID).

The activity, to be held virtually on 28 August 2025, aims to strengthen the institutional capacities of countries in the region through the exchange of experiences and the development of technical tools to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of public policies geared towards the circular economy. On this occasion, special emphasis will be placed on the design of circular transition indicators (CTI) and the development of recommendations for their regional harmonisation.

The meeting will also provide space to analyse experiences in circular value chains, explore opportunities for technical cooperation, discuss data governance models, and review regulatory and economic frameworks that integrate indicators into decision-making. The aim is to move towards the consolidation of an evidence-based regional agenda capable of guiding sustainable, inclusive, and resilient public policies.

The seminar will be held virtually, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:20 p.m. (Venezuela time), with simultaneous interpretation into English, and will be attended by international organisations, cooperation agencies, representatives of the private sector and national statistical systems. The circular economy has consolidated itself as an indispensable strategy in the face of global challenges such as the climate crisis, biodiversity loss and pressure on natural resources. In this regard, SELA is promoting this seminar as a technical and strategic space that will serve as a prelude to the XXXIII Meeting of International Cooperation Directors for Latin America and the Caribbean, in which the circular economy will play a central role in the regional agenda for South-South and Triangular cooperation.

The III Seminar on Circular Economy: measurement, monitoring and design of indicators for public policies in Latin America and the Caribbean is part of SELA’s Work Programme for 2022-2026, specifically the area of Sustainable and Resilient Development, which seeks to generate and disseminate the knowledge needed to support the transition to circular production and consumption models in Latin America and the Caribbean.
