The National Commission for the Defence of Competition of the Dominican Republic (PROCOMPETENCIA) expressed its recognition to the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA) for its valuable contribution to strengthening competition policies in the region.

In a letter addressed to Ambassador Clarems Endara, Permanent Secretary of SELA, the institution expressed its gratitude for the support provided as strategic co-sponsor of the International Forum on Gender and Competition Law and the II International Workshop on Competition Law for Journalists and Communicators, held on 26 and 27 June 2025, respectively, in the city of Santo Domingo.

In the letter, sent on 2 July, the President of the Board of Directors of PROCOMPETENCIA, María Elena Vásquez Taveras, highlights the participation of SELA and the presence of its Permanent Secretary as key elements for the success of both activities. The letter especially highlights SELA’s institutional commitment to gender equity, market transparency and technical capacity building in the region.

“The institutional commitment and collaboration of SELA were decisive for the success of this initiative,” said PROCOMPETENCIA, referring to the forum that addressed the role of competition policy in promoting gender inclusion in markets, industries and business environments. The support provided in convening the forum, as well as the participation of high-level international experts, whose presence contributed to enhancing the regional scope of the discussions, was also highly appreciated.

With respect to the workshop for journalists and communicators, PROCOMPETENCIA recognised the importance of this joint action to build capacity to disseminate the principles of competition law and to improve the understanding of the impact of these policies on the economic and social life of Latin American and Caribbean countries.

Through this collaboration, SELA reaffirms its commitment to the promotion of public policies aimed at inclusion, equal opportunities and sustainable economic development, in line with its Work Programme for 2022-2026, which fosters strategic partnerships and technical dialogue to build a more competitive and fairer environment in the region.

This recognition reinforces the importance of continuing to coordinate efforts between national competition agencies and regional integration mechanisms, for the benefit of a more integrated, resilient and equitable Latin America and the Caribbean.
