SELA launches new Web site to boost port digitization of Latin America and the Caribbean
07 October of 2020

Starting next Thursday 08 October 2020, the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA) will offer an innovative Web site that has been created for the strengthening of the Network of Digital and Collaborative Ports (Network of D&C Ports), made up of thirteen countries and twenty-eight port systems of the continent. The event will be hosted by renowned international journalist and television host Glenda Umaña.

This new portal, which also incorporates an extranet for the exclusive use of members of the Network, will help streamline the administrative processes of the communities of ports in the region, increase communication among its users, and stimulate the search for integrative solutions that enhance the logistics chains of the future; a very timely instrument in the current circumstance to deal with the crisis generated by the emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since 2014, as a result of an agreement between SELA and CAF-development bank of Latin America, the Network of D&C Ports programme has advanced a number of technical activities with the collaborative participation of the public, private and academic sectors. It currently has 28 port systems from thirteen member countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, and Uruguay.

In 2017, the Network established its own governance with its collaborating members that has contributed to the development of a work agenda in the scientific-technological, management and sustainability fields of port logistics communities and in the design of public transport and trade policies for the development of ports and their logistics.

In 2021, this programme is expected to be strengthened with the incorporation of new tools and training workshops on technological and information improvements that help boost the usefulness of the specialized Web site for both members of the Network and the general public.

This activity will be attended by the Permanent Secretary of SELA, Ambassador Javier Paulinich; Dr. Luis Carranza Ugarte, President of CAF-development bank of Latin America; and Dr. Edgar Patiño, President of the Port Authority of Peru (APN) and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Network of D&C Ports. They will be accompanied by Dr. Fausto Arroyo, Senior Executive of CAF-development bank of Latin America and expert in the port logistics and infrastructure sector of the region.
